Remembering how the Carribeans lost the ODI series 0-3 and the way this Chattogram Test was panning out for four days, the only people who would have believed that West Indies could secure a win, were probably all seated inside the West Indies dressing room.
Could it be that the West Indies team, however untested they are, were inspired for this win by that letter of Clive Lloyd? In an open letter on 13th January, Lloyd delivered a message to the West Indies team.
Lloyd, who had captained West Indies to consecutive World Cup titles, wrote an open letter for the members of the current team to encourage them ahead of the Bangladesh series.
“You now have the opportunity to improve our Test match rating and instil some pride again in the standard of our Cricket. This is not just my expectation but that also of the entire Caribbean region. Your victory would be theirs also,” The letter said.
“Your trip to Bangladesh might look daunting but this task is not insurmountable. It is the ideal opportunity” were the exact words of the former skipper. Undoubtedly he was expecting a reaction from the young squad and indeed the young did deliver.
Kyle Meyers went on to score a double century on his test debut. Bonner, who was also capped on the match, was also crucial in their journey towards the big target.
“In order to gain altitude, you must have the right attitude” were these the words that fuelled the Carribeans for their dazzling win?
