Besides the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamshala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai are on the short list. ICC usually announces the schedule of World Cup cricket about a year in advance. But this time, ICC has to wait for BCCI`s permission from the country`s government to host the World Cup. Cricket`s governing body had to first address two issues with the Indian government- tax waivers and securing visas for Pakistani cricketers. Pakistan cricket team has not played in India since 2013 except for ICC events.
The BCCI confirmed the issue of visas for Pakistani cricketers at the ICC meeting held in Dubai last week. BCCI will inform the ICC about the Indian government`s stance on the tax waiver. ICC has signed an agreement with BCCI in 2014. Therefore, BCCI is `obliged` to help ICC with tax exemption under this agreement.
India`s tax authorities had told the ICC last year that a 20 percent tax would be charged on the revenue generated from broadcasting the 2023 ODI World Cup. Earlier, according to BCCI calculations, the ICC can earn about 533.2 million dollars from the broadcast of the ODI World Cup.
