Half-centuries from Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder have put South Africa in a strong position as they lead Bangladesh by 137 runs at Lunch on Day 2 of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
At the break, South Africa had reached 243-8, with Verreynne unbeaten on 77 and Dane Piedt batting at six.
Bangladesh managed to take only two wickets during the session, both claimed by pacer Hasan Mahmud in consecutive deliveries.
Resuming play at 140-6 with a lead of 34, Verreynne and Mulder thwarted Bangladesh`s hopes of a quick dismissal, forming a substantial partnership of 119 runs.
Hasan ended their resistance by dismissing Mulder for 54 and then bowling out Keshav Maharaj for a duck.
However, he was unable to complete a hat-trick, as Piedt successfully defended the hat-trick delivery.
With Verreynne continuing his innings at 77, South Africa is in a commanding position, leading by 121 runs on a challenging pitch for batting.
The Proteas aim to extend their lead further and put pressure on the Bangladesh batters in the coming sessions.
Earlier, on Day 1, Bangladesh was bowled out for just 106 after choosing to bat first.
