In a surprising turn of events, Taskin Ahmed, the Bangladeshi cricketer, has been appointed as the vice captain of the national cricket team. This decision was announced by the selector committee headed by Gazi Ashraf Hossain on Tuesday at a press conference held at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Taskin`s new role as the deputy captain was confirmed by Gazi Ashraf Hossain, who highlighted Taskin`s leadership qualities and his consistent performance for the national team across various formats. He stated, "He is a promising player of another generation, leading in another department. He has been playing for the national team for a long time in various editions. Perhaps that`s why he is considered as a potential candidate."
Expressing hopes for Taskin`s fitness during the World Cup, BCB informed, "As far as the information goes, he will recover during the World Cup. You know the rule this time is even an injured player can be kept in the squad and if he gets better, it`s good. Otherwise, changes can be made. However, Taskin will not be participating in the series against the United States."
Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud has been named as the traveling reserve for the announced squad. He will join the team management during the T20 World Cup. Alongside, Taskin`s treatment will continue, and if Taskin remains unfit, Hasan will take his place.
Commenting on Taskin`s appointment as the deputy captain, Gazi Ashraf Hossain stated, "If he cannot play, BCB will reconsider and make necessary arrangements. At this moment, I cannot give a clear answer. If he cannot play for any reason, someone else will be given the opportunity. Hopefully, that won`t be the case."
Taskin Ahmed`s elevation to the role of deputy captain signifies the team management`s trust in his abilities and leadership potential, as they gear up for the T20 World Cup campaign.
