After rebuffing conditional half fare / half-pass for public transport, demonstrating students have called for fresh protests.
Earlier today (November 30), bus owners agreed to reduce 50 percent bus fares for students in the capital, starting Wednesday (December 1) in the face of protests.
Although bus-fare for students in the capittal has been halved, students told the media that they will continue their protests until an official notice by the government is issued in this regard.
The demonstrating students made the fresh call for protests after discussing their nine-point call with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Tuesday (November 30).
They staged demonstrations infront of the BRTA headquarters in capital's Banani.
Khandaker Enayet Ullah, general secretary of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners' Association, made the announement of reducing bus-fare by 50 percent earlier today.
"Students will have to show ID cards of their schools/colleges while giving half fares. Half fares will be applicable from 7:00 am to 8:00 am," he said
Rejecting these conditons, students told the press, many of them come from the outskirts of the capital, and have to start their commute before 6:00 am, thus thesse conditions are set to benefit only a handful of students. Henceforth, they made fresh call for protests, untill their nine-point demand are met by the authorities.
