In a move to honor the "Monsoon Revolution," the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has chosen eight directors to produce medium-length films.

These films will be made in different regions across the country, with each filmmaker leading a workshop in one of Bangladesh‍‍`s eight divisions.

The initiative is part of the "Remembering Monsoon Revolution" program, aiming to capture and preserve the spirit of the July Revolution through cinema.

The announcement came during a press conference held at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on January 7.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the cultural advisor to the ministry, attended the event and expressed his excitement about the project.

Sumon Rahman, a member of the search committee, revealed the names of the selected directors.

"Our goal was to find filmmakers who are not only skilled but passionate. These eight directors will conduct film workshops in eight divisional cities in 2025, and from there, they will create eight films with the trained participants," he explained.

The chosen directors are Anam Biswas, Humaira Bilkis, Shankha Dasgupta, Shaheen Dill Riaz, Rabiul Alam Robi, Tasmiah Afrin Mou, and Md. Tawqir Islam.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki shared his thoughts on the selection process, saying, "We didn’t focus on how many films they’ve done but on the quality and impact of their work. We wanted to see if they have that burning passion inside them."

He added, "These eight directors know that all eyes are on them.

The whole country is eagerly waiting to see what they will create.

They understand the importance of this project and will surely rise to the occasion."

This initiative is set to inspire budding filmmakers and bring to light the stories surrounding one of the country’s pivotal historical moments.
