At least 12 more people have been killed in flood and landslide in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday (July 28). Besides, the flood water inundated low-lying lands keeping at least 2 lakh people marooned.
Among the deceased, five of a family died in Teknaf and one in Moheshkhali while the flood water swept away six people in Ukhia and Eidgaon. Two more died in Ghumdhum of Naikhongchhari. The death toll in landslide and flood now stands at 22.
Water is flowing above the danger mark in Bakkhali and Matamuhuri rivers submerging some 70 villages of 20 unions in district Sadar, Ramu, Eidgaon, Chakaria, Teknaf and Moheskhali upazilas.
The landslide triggered by incessant rain left hundreds of thousands of Residents of hilly areas in great danger.
“Flood situation has been worsened in the district. Rural roads have been damaged due to incessant rain and snapped links in different parts. As many as 51 thousand 150 families have been affected by the flood,” said Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar district Md. Mamunur Rashid.
“Hundreds of hilly dwellers have been evacuated and the process is still underway. Loudspeaker was used in the area to create awareness,” he said.
