A Chittagong-based journalist is fighting for his life in a local hospital after he was beaten and thrown off from the second floor of a Chandanaish building allegedly over his report on hill cutting.
The victim is 34-year-old Ayub Miyaji, a Chandanaish upazila correspondent of a national and local daily. He is undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital and his condition is critical.
His father Abdus Shukkur filed a case on Tuesday night with Chandanaish Police Station against Md Alauddin, 35, and Md Faruk, 26, and seven to eight unknown people over the incident.
A video of the incident, which is not available now, went viral on social media the next day.
In the case statement, Shukkur alleged that his son became the target of a vested group after he wrote a report on hill cutting in the area and gave information about it to local upazila nirbahi officer and AC land.
On Tuesday afternoon, the accused attacked Ayub with sticks and iron rods and threw him off the second floor of a building which houses the computer training institute of the journalist.
Shukkur also alleged that the miscreants also vandalised the training institute and looted money.
Chandanaish Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmuda Begum said, "Ayub informed us about hill cutting in Dohazari area on Friday.
"After that, the mobile court of upazila administration conducted drives there and found the evidence of hill cutting.
The UNO added she is not sure if the attack was related to the incident. She has asked Chandanaish Police Station to investigate the incident and take stern action against the attackers.
Chandanaish police OC Anwar Hossain said they arrested a person named Babu, 30, over the incident.
