The deep depression in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone `Remal` as of 6 PM, prompting the issuance of danger signal number 7 for Payra and Mongla sea ports, and danger signal number 6 for Chittagong and Cox`s Bazar.
According to meteorologist Tariful Nawaz Kabir from the Meteorological Department, as of 6 PM, Cyclone Remal was located approximately 365 kilometers from Payra, 405 kilometers from Mongla, 400 kilometers from Cox`s Bazar, and 455 kilometers from Chittagong sea ports.
The cyclone has already caused rainfall in Bhola, Pirojpur, other coastal districts, and the capital, Dhaka.
In anticipation of Cyclone Remal, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has directed six districts to be especially prepared. Additionally, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has ordered the suspension of all types of vessel operations in coastal areas.
This directive is based on the forecasts and potential landfall areas of the cyclone. The affected districts include Satkhira, Bagerhat, Khulna, Barguna, Patuakhali, and Bhola.
Director of BIWTA`s Safety and Traffic Management Department, Md. Joynal Abedin, told The Report Live, "This directive has been issued after the number 3 warning signal at sea. During this period, ship operations will primarily be suspended. This will remain effective until further notice."
Acting Additional Director of BIWTA, Sheikh Masud Kamal, added, "Due to the number 3 warning signal, launch operations in coastal regions have been halted. This order will remain in effect until further notice."
