Arrested Jamaat leaders including its secretary general Mia Golam Parwar have been placed on four-day remand each.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter granted the remand in a case in anti-terrorism act which was filed for hatching anti-state conspiracy.
The court conducted a hearing over a 10-day remand plea filed by Sub-inspector Aminul Islam of Bhatara police station after the detainees were produced before the court on Tuesday (September 7).
Earlier on Monday, nine top Jamaat leaders were held while they were holding a meeting at Basundhara residential area in the capital.
“The detained Jamaat leaders joined a meeting at Basundhara residential area for hatching conspiracy against the state and devising plan of sabotage. On information, police launched a drive at nabbed them,” said Md. Asadussaman Deputy Commissioner of Gulshan zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Asked on whether or not the meeting was connected to the recent rise of Taliban in Afghanistan Asaduzzaman said, “We are looking into the matter.”
Apart from Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar the other detainees are assistant secretary general Hamidur Rahman Azad, Rafiqul Islam Khan, executive council members Izzat Ullah, Mubarak Hossain, Abdur Raf, former Shibir president Yasin Arafat and Jamaat activist Abul Kalam and Monirul l Islam.
