Chinese business delegation arrives in Dhaka to explore investment opportunities

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that trade and investment cooperation will be the central focus of the visit.

A high-profile Chinese business delegation, led by Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, is set to arrive in Dhaka on Saturday, May 31. Comprising around 200 members, the delegation’s visit is expected to further strengthen trade and investment ties between China and Bangladesh.

Upon arrival, Minister Wang will meet with Bangladesh’s Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin. During their stay, the delegation will participate in multiple high-level engagements, including a seminar organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) on Sunday. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will attend the event as the chief guest.

The delegation is also scheduled to join a meeting of the Joint Economic Committee and visit several economic zones across the country. Separate bilateral meetings will be held between the delegation and key figures such as Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus and Foreign Affairs Adviser Tawhid Hossain.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that trade and investment cooperation will be the central focus of the visit. Both countries are expected to explore new avenues for collaboration, with the visit seen as a step toward expanding Chinese investment in Bangladesh.

A significant highlight of the visit will be a Bangladesh–China Trade and Investment Exchange Forum, jointly hosted by both nations. The event will bring together over 100 Chinese and Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, aiming to foster mutual cooperation and identify new business opportunities.

According to BIDA, a full-day Bangladesh–China Investment and Trade Conference will also take place, featuring participation from approximately 250 business delegates representing nearly 100 Chinese companies. Among them will be senior executives from six to seven Fortune 500 firms, along with top representatives from four major Chinese chambers of commerce.

This marks the largest-ever Chinese business delegation to visit Bangladesh. The initiative is seen as a direct outcome of the Chief Adviser’s recent visit to China and the investment conference held in April. The growing interest from Chinese investors signals promising new prospects for Bangladesh’s economic landscape.

The conference’s opening ceremony will be attended by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the chief guest, with Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao as the special guest.
