Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury has been admitted to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in the capital after falling seriously ill on Friday, said Mohib Ullah Khondoker, vice principal of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College.
"Dr Zafrullah has been suffering from kidney complications for a long time. The day before yesterday, he suddenly became seriously ill. Later, he was taken to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital. Although he did not need to be shifted to ICU, he was given oxygen," he said.
"Due to kidney problems, he has to undergo dialysis three times a week. After Covid-19 infection, his lungs were also affected. Overall, his physical condition is quite serious," he added.
Dr Zafrullah, now 81, is undergoing treatment under Brig Gen (retired) Mmaum Mostafi, head of Nephrology Department of the medical college.
On behalf of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, Mohib Ullah urged countrymen to pray for Zafrullah's speedy recovery.
