A fire broke out in a cotton warehouse in Sitakunda, Chittagong. A fire broke out in the cotton warehouse in front of a container depot in Chhota Kumira area of Sitakunda Police Station around 11 am on Saturday. Five units of fire service and civil defense are working to control the fire.
Chittagong Fire Service Station Officer Shafiqul Islam confirmed this to the media. He said, after receiving the information around 10:30 am on Saturday, five of our units went to the spot and tried to bring the fire under control.
However, the fire service official could not immediately tell the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.
Meanwhile, Senior Station Officer of Kumira Fire Service Station Sultan Mahmood told TheReport.Live that the warehouse that caught fire was used by Nemson Container Depot authorities. The cotton imported by a company called Unitex Limited was burnt. The cottons were kept there in the form of bundles.
Incidentally, on the night of June 4 last year, 50 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the explosion of a chemical container in Keshabpur village of Sonaichari union of Sitakundu upazila. In the afternoon of March 4, 7 people were killed and 24 injured in an explosion at Seema Oxygen Limited in the same area. After this incident, fire happened again before a week passed.
