After a long hiatus, educational institutions in Bangladesh are set to reopen on September 12.
Authorities took the decision to reopen schools, colleges and universities after observing the Covid-19 situation, and deemed it favourable for the resumption of in-person activities.
However, due to the deteriorating flood situation in several districts, schools there cannot be reopened, said the Secondary and Higher Secondary education board.
On Tuesday (September 7), the Director General (DG) of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education board Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Faruque said it is not necessary to reopen schools and resume in-person classes in 10 districts affected with flood waters.
However, on-line classes will be delivered. These schools will resume in-person classes later.
According to the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education department, about 10 districts of the country are submerged with flood waters.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, water is flowing over the danger zone at various points in the country.
As a consequence, educational institutions in the flood affected areas will soon be used as temporary flood shelters.
Besides, it will not be possible to immediately resume in-person classes in the flood-hit districts.
Thus, these educational institutions situated in the flood hits areas have no obligation to reopen from September 12.
