Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said that foreign diplomats should bear in mind that we are not any dependent country. This (Bangladesh) is not a colony. We expect that they would follow their rules and etiquette.
The Minister said this in a press briefing on Monday. The Ministry of External Affairs organised this press conference on the ministerial conference of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), a cooperative organization of the coastal countries of the Indian Ocean.
Momen said, “I was engaged in teaching profession in the United States for long days. At that time, the journalists there asked me various questions. But, after becoming ambassador, they did not question me about any of their internal matters. However, the sad thing is that many people in Bangladesh go to diplomats and ask internal questions. This culture needs to be changed.”
Mentionable, the current chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association is Bangladesh. The ministerial conference of this organisation of 23 member countries is starting from November 22 and will continue until 24 in the capital Dhaka.
