Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has raised serious concerns about the government‍‍`s inability to ensure the safety and security of women.

Speaking during an NCP protest rally in Shahbagh, Sarjis highlighted the growing issue of women‍‍`s safety in public spaces and online, calling for stronger measures and accountability from the government.

"The level of security a woman needs, this government has failed to provide. From today onwards, people expect to see a clear stance from the authorities. They don’t want to see ministries failing any longer. It is high time the government takes the necessary steps to ensure women’s safety," Sarjis stated firmly.

He also appealed to citizens, urging everyone to support women from their own positions. "Stand with your ‘mothers and sisters’. A woman should feel safe, but right now, she doesn’t.

Protecting our sisters from those who prey on them has become a real challenge," he added.

Sarjis also addressed the state’s role in relation to religion.

"The state and religion are separate. The state should accommodate all religions. It should not be seen as one’s personal property. Women who are joining the National Citizen Party are specifically targeted, and false propaganda is being spread about them. Law enforcement must take action to prevent anyone from imposing their personal beliefs on others," he explained.

He then spoke about the rising mob culture and its negative impact on women.

"If mob culture continues to be used to harass women, it will prove that the law and order situation is failing. From today, we expect to see actions, not just words," Sarjis emphasized.

Samantha Sharmin, the senior joint convener of NCP, also shared her views at the rally.

"What is happening to women in this country goes against the very spirit of International Women’s Day. Women have not received the respect they deserve in 53 years of our independence. We need new laws to ensure that women can feel safe, at all times," she stated.

The protest highlighted the urgent need for stronger measures to protect women and ensure their security, both offline and online, in the face of rising threats.
