Asadul Habib Dulu on Sunday said the government will provide food support for three months to farmers in haor areas affected by flash floods.
He said the assistance will be given following instructions from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The minister said lists of affected farmers are being prepared in several districts, including Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Sylhet and Brahmanbaria.
He added that special cards will be issued so farmers can receive monthly support.
The Agriculture Ministry has also been asked to take steps for rehabilitation, he said.
The programme is expected to be formally launched on May 6 in Sunamganj.
Speaking at an event in Lalmonirhat, the minister also attended the launch of a project by the Bidyanondo Foundation.
Under the initiative, support items such as shop goods, vans, cattle and sewing machines were given to over 100 families to help improve their income.
