Horrible scenario likely during Eid travel

Two folds additional holidaymakers will travel ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr this year. The capital Dhaka may become crippled from the afternoon to midnight since 25 Ramadan till the previous day of Eid. A horrible scenario might be created during the Eid travel if the negligence in traffic management could not be resolved.

The Passenger Welfare Association expresses fear of ‘intolerable traffic jam, hustle and bustle on roads, charging additional fare and road mishaps. During a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity at Segunbagicha in the capital the platform upheld its finding.

Agreeing to the passenger welfare association Director of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Md. Hadiuzzaman said, there is growing doubt over the road communication management to go in coma as the demand is high.

During the press conference Hadiuzzaman said, “According to data, some 1.15 crore holidaymakers traveled in 2018 and 2019. However, during the last four Eid in the time of pandemic, fewer people travelled throughout the occasions. Some 60 lakh people travelled during every Eid on an average. In an ongoing survey it is found that almost 30 lakh people will travel everyday starting from four days before EId. As many as 8 lakh people will travel in bus, one lakh in launch, 4 lakh in private vehicles and another 4 lakh in motorbikes. About 12-13 lakh travelers will use truck, and train rooftop.”

Hadiuzzaman further said, “Schools, colleges and universities will be closed after 20 Ramadan. Family members, who have no schedule in Dhaka, have to be sent earlier. The working people will go when they get leave. Only, then we could have a relief.”

In the written speech the platform’s secretary general Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said, passengers will suffer most for the traffic congestion this year. He urged the government to free the footpath and roads from illegal occupation.
