A major disagreement has emerged within the leadership of the National Citizens` Party (NCP), as Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud claimed that either Sarjis Alam or Hasnat Abdullah, two prominent organizers of the party, is not telling the truth.
The dispute became public after Sarjis Alam posted on Facebook, challenging some of the claims made by Hasnat Abdullah regarding a meeting with the military.
Hannan Masud expressed his frustration with the situation by commenting on Sarjis’ post.
In his comment, Hannan Masud openly voiced his concerns, saying,
"What is this, brother? I’m saying this publicly—one of the two of you is lying. This cannot go on. You both hold key positions in the party, yet the way you are individually acting and making things public is causing controversy within the NCP."
He further expressed disappointment in the ongoing internal discord, adding,
"While people are building their hopes around the NCP, whose agenda is it to tarnish the party’s image like this? Sorry, I couldn`t remain silent any longer."
The tensions first surfaced when Hasnat Abdullah made a Facebook post last Friday, claiming that on March 11, at 2:30 PM, he and two others were approached by military personnel in the cantonment with a proposal for a new political strategy called "Refined Awami League," allegedly orchestrated by India.
Hasnat claimed that figures like Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Shirin Sharmin, and Taposh were part of this plan, which aimed to weaken the opposition by supporting multiple smaller parties rather than one strong opposition.
In the post, Hasnat wrote,
"The plan was presented to us from the cantonment, offering seat-sharing deals in exchange for our support. We were told that several other political parties had been offered the same deal, and they had conditionally agreed to rehabilitate the Awami League. It was suggested that having multiple opposition parties alongside a weakened Awami League was better than having a single strong opposition party."
Sarjis Alam, however, disagreed with parts of Hasnat`s claims and responded by posting his own take on the situation. He questioned the appropriateness of Hasnat’s decision to make the issue public on social media, stating,
"The way this information has been shared through a Facebook status doesn’t seem right to me. This approach could create trust issues during any future discussions with key stakeholders."
In his post, Sarjis Alam also contradicted Hasnat’s claim about the military meeting, stating,
"We were not summoned to the cantonment on March 11."
The public nature of this disagreement has raised concerns within the party, with some supporters fearing that such internal disputes could damage the NCP’s image as it seeks to establish itself as a significant political force.
