An attack carried out on journalists during the iftar party of Dhaka City North unit of BNP in Pallabi area of Mirpur in the capital on Friday (March 31) when they went to collect news at the program.
Private television channel NTV's special correspondent Imrul Ahsan Joni and several journalists were injured. The miscreants also broke the cameras of News 24 television.
An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, told the media about the incident that many people came at the end of the BNP program. People at the Iftar party jostled with them. At this time, television reporters got into the middle of the incident.
During the incident, the reporters did not have ID cards around their necks and booms in their hands. The unwanted incident happenned as people could not recognize the journalists, he eyewitness claimed.
He also said that later the Secretary General of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed regret over the incident. Two television cameras fell during the scuffle between the two groups of BNP and broken down.
OC Parvez Islam, officer-in-charge of Pallabi police station, said that he came to know about the incident in the evening, adding that "No complaints have been received so far. If found, action will be taken."
