Launches will remain operative till 6am Monday (August 2) to transport factory workers who are yet to reach Dhaka city. Earlier, the government nodded launch movement till Sunday (August 1) noon.
Public relation officer Md Mizanur Rahman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) confirmed the matter to media.
While talking to newsmen BIWTA director Md. Rafiqul Islam said, “We have received directives to continue launch movement. There are many passengers. The time government fixed earlier is not sufficient to transport them. For that reason, the deadline has been extended.”
Readymade Garment factories has been reopened since Sunday amid the ongoing tougher restrictions imposed by the government to check coronavirus contamination.
Workers have joined work in Dhaka city, Narayanganj, Gazipur and other factories adjoining to the capital.
Earlier on Saturday, workers of different factories traveled to Dhaka from home to join respective workplaces.
The travel brought immense suffering to the commuter as there was no motorized vehicles on the road due to 14-day shutdown.
Later on the day, the home ministry approved movement of buses and other transports to ease the travel of Dhaka-bound rush.
