Loading and unloading activities at Chattogram port jetties and the lighterage of goods from bigger vessels at outer anchorage has been suspended.
All the vessels anchored at the jetties and the outer anchorage of Chattogram port are being sent to the deeper sea as safety measure ahead of approaching cyclone Sitrang.
Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary, Md Omar Faruk, said a total of 14 vessels anchored at the jetties were already sent to the deeper sea on Monday morning while rest four would be sent soon.
The port authorities have put its own alert no. 3, the second highest security alert as per its Cyclone Disaster Preparedness and Post-Cyclone Rehabilitation Plan, 1992.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department hoisting danger signal no. 6 for the port as well.
