The holy month of Ramadan is set to begin in Bangladesh as the moon for the month was sighted in the sky.
As a result, fasting will begin on Sunday, with the first fast to be observed after the pre-dawn meal, Sehri, tonight.
This decision was made after a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held earlier today to confirm the sighting.
The meeting took place at the Islamic Foundation’s meeting room at Baitul Mukarram Mosque, and was chaired by Religious Affairs Adviser A.F.M. Khalid Hossain. The committee shared this information following the session.
As per the Arabic calendar, the committee holds a meeting each year on the 29th day of Shaban to determine the start of Ramadan.
In addition, the moon was spotted in several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, on Friday, marking the beginning of Ramadan in the region starting Saturday.
Ramadan officially starts in Bangladesh tomorrow, Sunday, following the moon sighting tonight.
