The voting for Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) will be held on stipulated time (January 16), the Election Commission (EC) said.
Additional EC secretary Ashoke Kumar Debnath confirmed the matter to media on Tuesday.
“No situation has been prevailing to postpone the election. The EC wants to hold the election as per the stipulated time,” Ashoke Kumar Debnath said.
Earlier on Monday, the government issued an 11-point directives to restrict public movement in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The decision will come into effect on 13 January.
The issuance of gazette notification to this connection created ambiguity as the election campaign will end on 14 January while the ballot is slated to open on 16 January.
