Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the northern region, has denied any disagreement regarding his meeting with Army Chief General Waqer-Uz-Zaman.
Speaking to the press at Syedpur Airport on Monday morning, Sarjis clarified the issue after questions about his recent Facebook post, which had sparked some controversy.
Earlier, Sarjis had expressed disagreement with a post by Hasnat Abdullah regarding the military in a Facebook update on Sunday (March 23).
In the post, Sarjis questioned the method in which the message was shared, saying,
"The way these things were posted on Facebook didn`t seem appropriate to me. It could later lead to a lack of trust in important discussions with stakeholders."
Addressing media questions at Syedpur Airport, Sarjis emphasized that there was no disagreement between him and the army chief over the meeting.
"There are no differences regarding the meeting with the army chief. No one, including the army, should bring up stories about bringing back a refined version of the Awami League," Sarjis stated.
Sarjis also made it clear that the army should not intervene in the country’s internal politics.
Instead, he asserted that the army’s role was to serve the nation responsibly.
"The army will perform its duties for the country, not interfere in domestic politics," he added.
Sarjis advised the public to be aware of rumors, describing them as a harmful disease.
He urged the government to set up an anti-rumor cell to combat misinformation.
Later today, Sarjis is scheduled to hold road meetings in five upazilas (sub-districts) in the Panchagarh district, continuing his political activities for the NCP.
