Minister of State for Religion, Md. Faridul Haque Khan said that Hajj cannot be performed with government fund from now on. The government has decided to stop this opportunity from this year. This opportunity has been stopped by the order of the Prime Minister.
Every year several hundreds of people from different classes and professions including Bangabhaban, Ganabhaban, Prime Minister's office, politicians, journalists, mosque imams and other government departments are sent to perform Hajj at state expense. In this process, 254 people were sent to Hajj last year as well.
This decision is changed from this year. In the post-COVID situation, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and the global economic recession, this decision will save the government at least 30 to 40 crore taka every year, according to the concerned authorities.
