In a press briefing held on Thursday morning, February 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Sajjad Ali reassured the public that there is no danger of "terrorist attacks" during the upcoming International Mother Language Day and Martyrs` Day events on February 21.
Sheikh Sajjad Ali addressed the media regarding the extensive security measures in place at the Central Shaheed Minar, where the main observances will take place.
He explained that multiple layers of security have been set up around the monument. Starting at 12:40 AM, the entrance at the Palashi end will open for the public.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of attendees taking responsibility for their personal belongings, including mobile phones and wallets.
He also stated that police personnel would be in charge of security until 2:00 PM on February 21, with additional support from the DMP`s Traffic Division.
Assuring that there was no cause for concern, Sheikh Sajjad Ali confirmed that there is no risk of a terrorist attack during the event.
He also mentioned that the law and order situation in Dhaka remains stable, with only a few isolated incidents of mobile theft reported.
The Commissioner added that authorities are closely monitoring top terrorist suspects to ensure the safety of the public.
