Rainy weather is expected to persist across Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, for the next three to four days due to the active monsoon system, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Following heavy overnight rainfall in Dhaka, the city experienced a cloudy Monday morning with light rain in some areas. The downpour also caused waterlogging in several parts of the capital.
Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said on Monday morning that Dhaka received 62 millimeters of rainfall in the 24 hours until 6 a.m., which qualifies as heavy rain.
"This pattern of rain is likely to continue across the country for the next three to four days. Even if the rainfall is not heavy, we can expect one or two spells of rain each day," he said.
According to the weather office, rainfall between 44 to 88 millimeters within 24 hours is considered heavy, while anything above 88 millimeters is classified as very heavy rain.
Forecasts suggest that on Monday, most areas in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Sylhet, and Mymensingh divisions, along with many parts of Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram divisions, could experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds.
