The country will enter the holy month of Ramadan tomorrow, when Muslims fast and abstain from all forms of consumption.
This is because on Monday evening in Bangladesh, the new crescent moon was visible in the sky.
Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan chaired a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation`s Baitul Mukarram headquarters, when a decision was made.
During the Arabic month, which is a period of austerity and self-control, Muslims are supposed to fast from sunrise to sunset.
The government has previously established the office hours for all government, semi-government, autonomous, and semi-autonomous institutions for the holy month of Ramadan, which is from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
