Rumors of a state of emergency being declared in Bangladesh are making rounds on social media, but Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani has called these claims completely false.

According to him, the law and order situation in the country remains stable, and there are no signs of instability that would warrant such a declaration.

On Monday, March 24, while addressing the media at the Secretariat, Secretary Ghani responded to journalists‍‍` questions regarding the rumors that have caused some speculation among the public.

“This is simply gossip. I have no comments on this matter,” he stated plainly, dismissing the claims.

The rumors first started spreading online late Sunday night, particularly among supporters of the ousted Awami League, who shared various unverified information.

Some of them even speculated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina might return to Bangladesh soon, adding fuel to the rumors.

In response, journalists asked Ghani about the situation following a law and order briefing held on Monday.

He reiterated that there is no basis for the claims.

“There is no information indicating any significant risk to the law and order situation. Everything is under control, and we are maintaining the normal level of vigilance. The police are alert, and we are making sure that stability is upheld,” he assured.

In addition, the Home Secretary shared that after the Eid holidays, the Australian High Commission in Dhaka would resume processing visa applications for Bangladeshi citizens.

The rumors surrounding the emergency declaration, according to Ghani, are unfounded, and the government remains committed to ensuring the country‍‍`s stability.
