The government has heightened security measures in the diplomatic zone -- Gulshan and Baridhara -- in Dkaka against the backdrop of protests demanding an end to genocide in Gaza and establishment of an independent Palestine state.
As part of the move, the army, BGB, APBn, SB, CID, police and intelligence forces were put on high alert in these areas on Monday, particularly surrounding the US embassy in Gulshan, to ensure foolproof security and avoid any untoward incident.
“We have taken all-out security arrangement in the diplomatic zone in Gulshan and Baridhara areas over the protests,” Ali Ahmed Masud, assistant commissioner (AC) of the Gulshan Division DMP, told BSS.
“All security forces except RAB have been deployed to ensure security there. No untoward incident has taken place, thanks to the security arrangement,” he added.
In addition, members of the security forces stopped traffic from the road adjacent to the US embassy from Notun Bazar to Gulshan.
On-duty police personnel said restrictions have also been imposed on the movement of people through there.
