A Lakshmipur court has sentenced seven people to rigorous life term for shooting a Juba Dal leader down dating back to 11 years. Besides, 11 other accused in the case have been acquitted.
Judge Mohammed Rahibul Islam of district and session court passed the order Monday.
The accused who were awarded life term are Aziz Member, his son Sabuj, Bellal Hossain alias Biplab, Ibrahim, Manik, Ismail Hossain and Abul Kashem. Only Ismail and Kashem were present at the court while the verdict was delivered. Other convicts are absconding.
District public prosecutor advocate Jashim Uddin confirmed the matter to media.
“All the convicts were proved guilty under the section 302 and 109 of Bangladesh penal code. They have been handed down life in prison and fined taka 10 thousand,” Jashim Uddin said.
The Juba Dal leader Anwar Hossain was killed while he was staying at his brother’s office at Duttapara bazar in the district on June 4 in 2011, according to the case statement.
The accused gunned him down from point blank range.
Later his brother Md. Ashek filed a case with Lakshmipur Sadar police station the next day against 25 named and 10-12 unnamed.
