Special Zone to be created for women in Cox’s Bazar sea beach

The district administration in Cox’s Bazar has decided to create a special zone for female tourists in the sea beach.

The decision came following a meeting between hotel owners, law enforcement agencies and the district administration on Saturday.

The local administration came up with the decision after a woman alleged of raping her in Cox’s Bazar. The special zone will feature a separate dressing room and locker room.

Confirming the matter Cox’s Bazar additional district magistrate Md. Abu Sufian said, “A reserved zone of 100-150 square feet areas will be created for female tourists. If anyone wishes she can go there.”

The decision will be implemented soon, added he.

“To ensure the woman-friendly environment, female employees have been recruited mostly in maintaining the beach. There are also women in tourist police. They are taking steps to ensure security at hotels and guest houses,” the additional magistrate furthered.

A woman was allegedly gang-raped by three men after going to Cox’s Bazar on a trip with her husband and their eight-month-old child on Wednesday.

Informed of the incident, law enforcers rescued her from a hotel called Zia Guest Inn at around 2am later on Thursday.
