The interim government will not issue the July Declaration but will facilitate the process, said Advisor Mahfuz Alam.
He made this statement during a press briefing by the Press Wing of the Chief Advisor at the Foreign Service Academy on Thursday, January 9, in the afternoon.
Mahfuz Alam stated, "The proposal for the declaration was made by the students. Another thing to clarify is that the government will not issue the declaration. The government will facilitate the process. The government will not create or issue any declaration itself. Instead, the students` proposal will be announced or drafted based on the consensus of all parties."
In response to a question regarding the July Declaration, Mahfuz Alam said, "We will discuss with registered political parties in the country as well as social organizations outside of the parties. We will do this from the government`s side."
"We will do this based on consensus, and everyone`s opinions will be heard. Later, the extent of reforms, such as constitutional amendments or abolishments, will be determined based on discussions," he said.
Advisor Mahfuz further added, "We will sit, either formally or informally, with all organizations that participated in the mass uprising. We hope to complete this by next week."
In response to another question, Mahfuz Alam said, "The students demanded that the declaration be prepared by January 15. This timeframe might be extended slightly, but it will not be delayed too much. It will likely be completed within a few days of their deadline. We hope that, in consultation with everyone, if it is possible to do this by January 15, then it can be done. However, the government wants to do this based on the agreement of all parties. We believe the students will show patience and restraint. A declaration made with the consensus of all will be good for Bangladesh."
