Woman dies after falling from spa center during raid

A woman was died and several others were injured after falling down from a multi-storey residential building in Dhaka’s Gulshan area during the raid of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) as part of removing commercial concerns from residential areas, police said.

Law enforcers initially learned that at least four young women jumped off from the building during the raid.

Confirming the matter, Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Gulshan Division, said that he heard regarding the death of a woman during the DNCC raid.

The police brought two of them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 4pm with serious injuries while doctors declared one of them dead, Md Alamgir, Sub-Inspector of Gulshan police station, said.

The 19-year-old deceased Farzana Akhtar was a hailer of Khulna and lived with her husband in a rented house at Khilkhet’s Bottola area of Dhaka. Zahid Hasan, the husband of the deceased told reporters at the DMCH that his wife used to work in Gulshan while he worked for a grocery store.

“The left hand of the other girl has been broken,” said police officer Alamgir.

According to a DNCC spokesperson, Pial Hasan, two spa centre staff jumped off the building to escape during a drive of DNCC.

“The DNCC raid was performed under a magistrate where the members of the Armed Police were also present. The police station was then notified that some persons had leapt off at that time,” continued Alamgir, who took the injured to the hospital.

According to police, DNCC raided the house on road number 47 of Gulshan-2 area between 2:30 and 3:00 pm on Wednesday, where there was a spa center.
