The Advisory Council, chaired by Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has approved a national budget of Tk 7.9 trillion (790,000 crore) for the upcoming fiscal year. The approval came during a council meeting held on Sunday.
One of the key decisions in this year’s budget is the removal of the provision for legalizing undisclosed or ‘black’ money, a measure that had long been a subject of public debate.
Further details regarding the budget will be provided by Finance Adviser Dr. Salauddin Ahmed at a press conference scheduled for 3 PM on Sunday.
On June 2, Finance Adviser Dr. Salauddin Ahmed had presented the proposed budget of Tk 7.89999 trillion, marking the first budget under the current interim government.
The budget presentation was simultaneously broadcast on state-run BTV and various private media outlets.
This follows the precedent set by former caretaker government Finance Adviser A B Mirza Md.
Azizul Islam, who had announced the national budgets for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 fiscal years via television and radio.
The newly approved budget reflects a significant policy shift, particularly in its move to eliminate the long-standing opportunity to whiten black money.
