Sheikh Bashir Uddin, the Trade and Textile Advisor, blamed the rising fuel prices on the flawed contracts made by the previous government in the energy sector.
Speaking on Thursday afternoon at the inauguration of the 19th Textile Fair held at the Bashundhara International Convention Center in Dhaka, he highlighted how the past administration’s "unreasonable" deals have contributed to the current situation.
However, he pointed out that the present government has reduced corruption, which creates an opportunity to bring down fuel prices.
"We are trying our best to manage the crisis," Sheikh Bashir said, assuring that efforts are being made to handle the situation effectively.
He also encouraged businesses to adopt cost-saving practices to help navigate these challenges.
During the event, business leaders expressed concerns over the ongoing gas crisis and the high prices of fuel.
They stressed that if these issues are not addressed, it will likely deter new investments in the textile sector, which would have a negative impact on the economy.
They urged the government to find solutions to this problem.
The Trade Advisor linked the energy crisis directly to corruption from the past government, but also reassured that the current administration is working hard to address the matter.
He emphasized that if costs are managed properly, the country could see a reduction in fuel prices.
