BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Fazlur Rahman, who received a show-cause notice from the party over his controversial remarks regarding the July uprising, addressed the media on Monday amid protests outside his Segunbagicha residence in Dhaka.
Demonstrators have been demanding his arrest since midnight Sunday. Law enforcement personnel, including police and military, have been stationed at the site.
Speaking at a press conference at the Law Reporters’ Forum office in the Supreme Court Lawyers’ Annex building, Fazlur Rahman said, “I am speaking against Jamaat-Shibir and anti-Liberation elements. If anyone—students, young people, or members of other parties—feels insulted or hurt by my statements, they will respond politically, and I will answer them politically. There is no reason for violence or mobbing outside my home.”
On the presence of security forces outside his residence, he added, “I believe they are performing their duties properly.” Regarding the protesters, he said, “I know they are still there. Whenever I call, the police respond immediately, usually within ten minutes. I do not blame them.”
Fazlur Rahman also expressed concern over his personal security, stating that he feels unsafe returning to his home under the current circumstances.
