Gordon Moore, the co-founder of the company Intel Corporation, is no more. He breathed his last on Friday (March, 24) at the age of 94. He was one of the pioneers of the development of the computer generation. Intel and Gordon Moore`s family charity organization confirmed the news of his death.
Gordon Moore founded Intel Corporation in July 1968 with Robert Noyce. Moore was a little-known engineer at the time. He served as Executive Vice President of Intel Corporation until 1975. Later in 1975, he became the president of Intel. In April 1979, he became the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. He served this position till April 1987. In 1997, he was named Chairman Emeritus of Intel. He was a former chairman and lifetime trustee of the California Institute of Technology.
In an article written in 1965, Gordon Moore said, `Thanks to advances in technology. The number of transistors on microchips has roughly doubled every year since the invention of the integrated circuit. This trend will continue". This later became known as `Moore`s Law`. Since Moore`s paper, computer chips have become more efficient and affordable.
Intel`s current CEO, Pat Gelsinger, said, "Gordon Moore defined the technology industry with his insight and vision and inspired technologists and entrepreneurs for decades".
