Per capita foreign debt in the country is  24,630 taka

At present, the per capita foreign debt of the citizens of Bangladesh is 292.11 US dollars or 24 thousand 830 taka. The information was given by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in response to a question from Chittagong-4 Awami League MP Didarul Alam during the question and answer session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday (April 15). Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the question and answer session.

The minister said the current foreign debt balance (June 30, 2021) is 4,945.6 million US dollars. According to the data received from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the total population of the country is 179.31 million or 16.93 million. As per this, the per capita foreign debt is 292.11 US dollars. Replying to a question from Didarul Alam, the finance minister said the amount of loan agreements with various development partner countries or organizations till June 21 is 9,590.63 million US dollars. Of this, 5 thousand 945 crore 60 million US dollars have been discounted.

There are 4,745 crore 3 lakh 40 thousand US dollars waiting for the discount. Among the loan agreements with various development partner countries or organizations, there are 2,472.40 million dollars with the World Bank, 1732.67 million with the ADB and 1,917.54 million dollars with Japan. Besides, Russia has agreements worth 1,152.73 crore, China with 803.55 crore, India with 727.85 crore, South Korea with 96.97 crore, IDB with 106.27 crore and AIIB with 206.90 crore.
