Malaysia denies agreement allowing 10,000 Bangladeshi students to work

Malaysia’s Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, has rejected claims that 10,000 Bangladeshi students in Malaysia would be granted "graduate passes" to enable them to work in the country.

In a statement issued on August 23, Zambry clarified that no such agreement was signed during the recent visit of Bangladesh‍‍`s interim government Chief Adviser, Prof Muhammad Yunus. He emphasized that Malaysia was under no obligation to provide work opportunities to Bangladeshi students.

The minister also criticized Kedah’s Industry and Investment, Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee Chairman, Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah, for spreading misinformation.

“Based solely on a newspaper report in Bangladesh, he alleged that I had agreed to consider providing ‍‍`graduate passes‍‍` to 10,000 Bangladeshi students. The allegation is completely untrue and inaccurate,” Zambry said.

He further described Haim Hilman’s statement that Malaysians were concerned about the alleged deal as “irresponsible,” warning against the practice of creating misleading content for social media virality.

Earlier, Haim Hilman had posted a two-minute and 19-second video on TikTok, claiming that 10,000 Bangladeshi students would be offered job opportunities in Malaysia.
