3 more dengue deaths, 412 hospitalized in 24 hours

Dengue has claimed three more lives in the past 24 hours, while 412 new patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

With these latest figures, the total number of dengue deaths this year has risen to 118, and hospitalizations have reached 29,044.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release from its Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room on Monday (August 25), confirmed the latest statistics.

According to the release, the fatalities were reported between 8 am Sunday (August 24) and 8 am Monday (August 25). During this same period, 412 new patients were hospitalized with dengue. The admissions included 102 in Barishal division, 77 in Chattogram, 51 in Dhaka division, 69 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 53 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 26 in Khulna, 4 in Mymensingh, and 30 in Rajshahi.

DGHS data shows the monthly hospitalizations this year: 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, 5,951 in June, 10,684 in July, and 8,064 so far in August.

The death toll includes 10 in January, 3 in February, 7 in April, 3 in May, 19 in June, 41 in July, and 35 so far in August.

Bangladesh experienced its worst dengue outbreak in 2023, when 321,179 patients were admitted to hospitals. In comparison, 101,211 cases were recorded in 2024, 62,382 in 2022, 28,429 in 2021, 1,405 in 2020, and 101,354 in 2019.
