US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya visited a Rohingya camp in Cox`s Bazar on Wednesday morning.
On a special plane, the US delegation headed by Zeya arrived in Cox`s Bazar at 9am.
Around 10:30 am, the delegation team went to the Rohingya Registration Center, which is run by the UNHCR, in Rohingya camp number 9.
In addition to engaging directly with Rohingyas throughout the day, this high-profile US delegation will visit the nutrition center and cultural memory center there and speak with representatives of practically all foreign groups working in Cox`s Bazar.
Zeya and Lu will leave Cox`s Bazar in the afternoon after speaking with government repatriation and refugee relief representatives.
On their visit to Cox`s Bazar, they were accompanied by a 10-person delegation that included US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas and Refugee Affairs Coordinator in South Asia MacKenzie Rowe.
