Around 229 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) deployed nationwide, including in Dhaka, to ensure law and order during a ‍‍`complete shutdown‍‍` organized by quota protesters.

BGB spokesman Shariful Islam made this announcement in a statement on Thursday.

Earlier, BGB had been stationed in eight districts, including the capital, in response to protest actions by students and job seekers advocating for reforms to the government job quota system.

On Tuesday, BGB was deployed in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Bogura, Rangpur, and Rajshahi, with additional deployments in the Jahangirnagar University area.

The deployment followed clashes on Tuesday resulting in six fatalities among quota protesters and one on early Thursday, pro-Awami League activists, and police, which triggered further demonstrations.

On Wednesday, BGB extended deployments to Faridpur, Cox’s Bazar districts, and the Dhaka University area.
