DMP restricts public movement within 200 yards of HSC exam centres

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a restriction on public movement within 200 yards of HSC and equivalent examination centers to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the upcoming exams.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the DMP announced that the directive will take effect from July 2, when this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations are scheduled to begin. The exams will be held under a unified question pattern across nine general education boards, as well as the Madrasa and Technical Education Boards.

According to the notice, the DMP Commissioner issued the restriction under Sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/1976). It states that access within 200 yards of examination centers in Dhaka is strictly prohibited for anyone except examinees and exam-related personnel during exam hours.

The order will remain in effect on exam days throughout the examination period.

In a separate notice, the DMP also issued traffic and public movement guidelines to ensure smooth travel for examinees. It said the HSC examinations will begin at 10:00 AM on July 2 at 309 centers across Dhaka city, and students are advised to start their journey early to avoid delays.

Students traveling by private vehicles have been instructed not to be dropped directly at exam center gates but instead at nearby less congested locations. After the exams, they are advised to be picked up from similar points.

The DMP further stated that parking vehicles on roads adjacent to exam centers will not be allowed under any circumstances, and legal action will be taken for violations.

Parents have been requested not to gather near exam centers, as congestion may disrupt traffic flow. Violations may result in fines under the Road Transport Act, 2018.

To ensure smooth movement of examinees, the police also urged the public to avoid roads near exam centers from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM daily, except for emergencies.

The first exam will be Bangla First Paper. The HSC theoretical exams will run from July 2 to August 8, followed by practical exams to be completed by August 15.

Exams will be held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Students must enter the exam halls at least 30 minutes before the start time. The first 30 minutes will be allocated for multiple-choice questions, followed by two and a half hours for written exams.
