In response to a student`s accusation of sexual harassment, the Dhaka University (DU) authorities suspended Prof Nurul Islam of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research from all academic activities.
Primarily, the DU fact-finding committee, which was established to look into sexual harassment claim brought against Nurul by a female student, found proof that the incident to be true.
The committee`s report was presented to the university`s top decision-making body, the syndicate meeting, on Wednesday night, and the decision of suspension was in the meeting that was chaired by Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Numerous syndicate members attested to it to the media.
They claim that the syndicate made the decision to charge the anti-sexual harassment cell in order to look into the event more thoroughly.
Following accusations against Prof Nurul, a group of DU students padlocked his room on November 29 of last year.
