The government has approved the establishment of a new public medical college as part of its efforts to expand medical education in the country. The approval has been granted for the establishment of Thakurgaon Medical College under the Health Education Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. With this addition, the total number of government medical colleges in the country has risen to 38.
The information was announced on Wednesday (May 13) through a notification issued by the Health Education Division.
The notification states that the government has granted approval for the establishment of “Thakurgaon Medical College” in Thakurgaon district under the Health Education and Family Welfare Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
It also adds that the order, issued by the order of the President, will come into effect immediately.
According to the Directorate General of Health Education, there are currently 37 government and 66 private medical colleges in the country. In addition, six more medical colleges are being operated under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army.
