Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) concluded their protest at Shahbagh intersection around 5:20 PM today, calling for justice over the killing of Shahriar Alam Shammo.
The demonstration, which began at 4:00 PM, blocked the busy intersection for about an hour and a half, disrupting traffic.
Protesters accused authorities of negligence in the investigation and demanded the immediate arrest of the main suspect and others involved.
JCD also called for a fair trial and harsh punishment for the perpetrators. In addition, they demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor and proctor of Dhaka University, holding them accountable for the deteriorating security on campus.
Participants included activists from Dhaka University as well as from Jagannath University, Tejgaon College, Dhaka College, Titumir College, and other institutions under Dhaka-based and Metropolitan JCD units.
JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin addressed the gathering.
Shammo, a student of the Institute of Education and Research (2018–19 session) and literature secretary of the JCD Sir AF Rahman Hall unit, was fatally stabbed near Suhrawardy Udyan on May 13 after an altercation following a motorcycle accident.
