The authorities at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) have withdrawn the temporary expulsion orders against 37 students and reopened all seven residential halls, following a syndicate meeting held today.

According to Kuet registrar Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan, the expulsion orders were initially issued during an earlier syndicate meeting on April 14. However, today‍‍`s meeting saw the orders revoked after a review of the situation, reports The Daily Star.

In the syndicate meeting, it was also decided that six halls for male students and one for female students have been reopened from the afternoon.

According to a press release issued following the meeting, academic classes are scheduled to resume on May 4.

Although the university officially announced the reopening of the halls today, all seven residential halls at KUET were already occupied by students. On April 15, they forcefully entered the six male dormitories, and last evening, students broke the locks of the only female dormitory, Rokeya Hall, defying the previous administrative order.

Earlier today, Education Adviser CR Abrar visited the KUET campus and spoke with students on hunger strike, urging them to end the protests and trust the ongoing investigation, but the students had refused.

Out of the 32 students participating, seven reportedly had fallen ill and received medical care.

Meanwhile, other students continued their demonstrations throughout the day, holding multiple protest marches across campus to press home the demand for the VC‍‍`s resignation.

The unrest at Kuet began on February 18, when a violent clash erupted over the demand to ban student politics on campus, leaving over a hundred people injured. The following day, students had locked the administrative and academic buildings, prompting the university to suspend all political activities on campus.
