RAB raids Dhaka College, ex-BCL leader held

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and DB conducted a raid on Dhaka College following clashes between traders and shop-workers of New Market and students of Dhaka College.

During the drive, the law enforcers took a student into their custody. However, they came in search of a total of 12 students, said the concerned. The RAB raided room 101 of the college's International Hall at 5 pm on Sunday.

Witnesses said two mobile sets and a student named Zaheer Hasan Jewel were detained during the operation. The arrestee Jewel is a member of the convening committee of the latest committee of Dhaka College Chhatra League and a student of the accounting department of the college.

In this regard, the caretaker of the dormitory, the lecturer of the Department of History and Culture of Islam. Kamruzzaman said,

"I heard that DB and RAB members came to the dormitory. Two mobile phone sets were seized at the time. However, I do not know whether any student has been detained,” said the college’s lecturer and the dormitory caretaker Md. Kamruzzaman.

Asked if they had been allowed to conduct raids on the dormitory, he said they had not spoken to me, probably to the college principal.

Students of Dhaka College clashed with shop owners and employees of New Market on Monday night and Tuesday. Two people, Nahid and Morsalin, were killed and more than 50 people were injured. At least three cases have been filed in this regard. One of the accused is BNP leader Advocate Maqbool Hossain who is currently in remand.
